Kosher Food in Rome
All restaurants in Rome are certified by the Beth Din of the Jewish Community of Rome (Chief Rabbi Riccardo Shmuel Di Segni). Most are not Mehadrin or Glatt, but all use only Gvinat Israel (supervised cheese). The two main areas are Piazza Bologna and the Jewish Ghetto.
For fully Glatt kosher meat: Little Tripoli (Piazza Bologna) or BaGhetto Meat (Ghetto). Everything else is dairy, parve or bakery — see the table. Note: most restaurants close between lunch and dinner.

Takeout for Shabbat: the Shabbat meal caterers — a separate service, not run by Chabad — also cater during the week with advance notice.
In all restaurants (including the recommended ones), vegetables are not checked by the mashgichim. Avoid items that require checking for insects — artichokes, broccoli, courgette flowers, leafy greens and similar. We also can't take responsibility for each restaurant's ingredients; if you want to be sure everything is mehadrin, ask the restaurant.
How the supervision works
All recommended restaurants have a frum person present at all times. Cooking is on gas or electric stoves left on continuously — not induction (induction, if present, only warms food, it doesn't cook). They don't necessarily use tuna with a hashgacha temidit or that is Bishul Yisrael. Food is prepared as Bishul Yisrael according to the Rama; those who follow Beit Yosef (Sephardim) can request this when ordering.
At Chabad
Group hosting for meals is available at Chabad Piazza Bologna — Kosher Mehadrin under the supervision of Rabbi Menachem Lazar.
Delivery
Delivery through the apps is within Rome; for delivery to the airport — or any area outside the city — use a taxi or private driver. (Uber itself does not deliver food; only Uber Eats delivers, and only within Rome.) For kosher products, KosherFood delivers from Milan (next-day) throughout Italy — islands and small towns may take a few extra days.

Kosher stores
Mostly dry products with various hechsherim (not all mehadrin). Some kosher stores carry fresh or frozen kosher meat & chicken — some carry Glatt meat — at different levels.
Gelato
Cholov Israel gelato at the Kosher Gelato shop. Unsupervised ice cream may contain animal fat.
Bread & pastries
Bread/pastries from non-certified stores are usually not kosher — most bakeries use lard.
Milk & cheese
Supermarket milk isn't supervised. Latte Sano was once approved as Kosher Chalav Stam; other brands may share machinery with whey (rendering milk non-kosher), and unsupervised milk could come from a treif animal. All cheese requires supervision, even if you drink Chalav Akum.
At the airport (FCO)

- Beer — unflavored only
- Coffee — unflavored only
- Coke, Coke Zero, Fanta, Sprite — per European kashrut authorities (not OU / Rabbi Landau)
- Juices — without grapes (uva) or cochineal (E120)
- Alpro drinks (Soy, Oat, Almond, Coconut, Rice) — Badatz Shomrei Hadas Antwerp; code starts with two letters
- Orasì drinks (Soy, Oat, Almond, Rice) — OU symbol on the bottle
- Dry pasta — without coloring
- Kellogg's cereal — with the MK logo
- Heinz Mayonnaise — with the MK logo
- Heinz Ketchup — MK; all plastic bottles, even without the logo
- San Carlo chips (Classica, Rustica) — without the EUK logo (not Bishul Israel)
- Canned tuna — Calippo, Rio Mare, As do Mar (approved, not under supervision)
- Olives — Ficacci with the 1K symbol, Alisa with OU
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil — 100% olive oil
What the labels mean
- Glatt
- Meat from animals with smooth, defect-free lungs — the stricter standard.
- Mehadrin
- The highest, most stringent level of supervision.
- Chalav / Cholov Yisrael
- Dairy produced under Jewish supervision from the milking.
- Gvinat Israel
- Cheese made under Jewish supervision.
- Bishul Israel
- Food cooked (or the flame lit) by an observant Jew.
- Mashgiach Temidi
- A kosher supervisor present the entire time.
- Beit Yosef / Rama
- Sephardic / Ashkenazi halachic standards for Bishul Israel.
- Parve
- Neither meat nor dairy — can be eaten with either.
