Meals with Chabad
For years Chabad in Piazza Bologna has hosted large, family-style Yom Tov meals for locals, students and visitors — and although the fire of 24 August left our center unusable, the meal of the first night of Sukkot is confirmed: it is held at another location in the Piazza Bologna area, and registration is open on the Events page. Seating is outdoors. We send the exact address only by email, together with your booking confirmation.
First night, Friday 25 September — confirmed, book here. The other Sukkot meals at Chabad are not taking place this year. You can also help us buy a new home.
Public Sukkah in the center
Chabad puts up a public Sukkah in Piazza Barberini — anyone passing by can stop for the blessing, a slice of cake and a shake of the lulav.
Almost every synagogue in Rome has its own sukkah, open during the times of prayer.

Lulav & etrog — the four species
Chabad brings in lulavim, hadassim, aravot and Calabrian etrogim every year, in complete sets or as single species. Order online and write to us to arrange collection.

Practical details
There is no Eruv in Rome, so nothing can be carried outdoors on Shabbat. On Yom Tov, carrying is permitted. This year the first day of Sukkot is Shabbat, when the lulav is not taken — the mitzvah of the four species starts on Sunday. Synagogues require registration before Friday 2 pm at security.romaebraica.it. Hot plates and hot-water urns can be rented from Chabad, and if you prefer a meal with a local family, fill in this form.
Hakafot — dancing with the Torah
Simchat Torah in Rome (Saturday night 3 October and Sunday 4 October) — every synagogue in the city holds Hakafot, in the evening and during the day, each followed by a large buffet.
No ticket is needed for the dancing — but registration is required at security.romaebraica.it.
