Meals in the Chabad Sukkah

Chabad in Piazza Bologna has a large Sukkah used for every Yom Tov meal — family-style tables for locals, students and visitors. Book your places on the Event list; registration for each meal closes the day before. The second night of Yom Tov falls at the end of Shabbat, so that meal begins only after nightfall.

🍽 Book your Sukkot meals

All the Sukkot, Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah meals are on the Events page. Coming with a family or a group? Write to us and we'll seat you together.

Public Sukkah in the centre

Besides the Sukkah at the centre, Chabad puts up a public Sukkah in Piazza Barberini — anyone passing by can stop for the blessing, a slice of cake and a shake of the lulav.

Restaurants with a Sukkah

These kosher restaurants have their own Sukkah during the holiday — book ahead, places are limited:

Practical details

There is no Eruv in Rome, so nothing can be carried outdoors on Shabbat and Yom Tov. This year the first day of Sukkot is Shabbat, when the lulav is not taken — the mitzvah of the four species starts on Sunday. Synagogues require registration before Friday 2 pm. Hot plates and hot-water urns can be rented from Chabad, and if you prefer a meal with a local family, fill in this form.

Hakafot — dancing with the Torah

Shemini Atzeret at Chabad (Friday night 2 October) — Chabad holds full Hakafot already on the night of Shemini Atzeret, which makes it the natural place for visitors from Israel, who keep one day of Yom Tov and celebrate Simchat Torah that night.

Simchat Torah in Rome (Saturday night 3 October and Sunday 4 October) — every synagogue in the city holds Hakafot, in the evening and during the day, each followed by a large buffet.

✨ Everyone is welcome

No ticket is needed for the dancing — just come. For the seated meals, book on the Events page.
