Many visitors get scammed by unofficial taxis. Use only official white taxis with a license number and meter — ask the driver to turn the meter on, or request the fixed airport fare (see the table above). No taxi from the airport into the city should cost more than €70–80.
Public transport & taxis
Buses, trams, the subway and trains cover the city. For taxis we recommend the It-Taxi or Free Now apps — Uber is usually at least twice the price. You can also contact the Jewish drivers.
Scooters & bikes
E-scooters (monopattini) and bikes can be rented around Rome through apps such as Lime, Dott and Bird. Note: under a new Italian law, a helmet is now required to ride an e-scooter.
Driving & parking
Central Rome restricts car access in ZTL zones — a red-circle sign with "Varco Attivo" means entry is restricted; "Varco Non Attivo" means you may enter. To avoid ZTLs, use Waze or turn on "No tolls" in Google Maps.
Car rental is available at the airport and around Rome (Termini, Tiburtina). Piazza Bologna is outside the ZTL; the Ghetto is on its edge — park outside it on streets with a blue line (pay at the machine); the nearest paid parking is Via delle Zoccolette 31. Parking lines: white = free · blue = paid · yellow = reserved.
Break-ins are common. Don't leave luggage, valuables, or important items such as Tefillin or passports in the vehicle.
Luggage storage
On a stopover? The storage facility at FCO airport is at the end of the corridor — turn right as you exit arrivals in Terminal 3. There are also many storage options at the train stations. In the Ghetto, Italy VIP Tours offers storage with a 20% Chabad discount. To bring your bags to Chabad, please contact us first.

Hi, I am coming with 2 friends to rome this summer. We are checking out of our Airbnb on Friday morning June 13th but are not leaving for Florence until 2pm. Would we be able to leave our bags at Chabad for some time while we explore Rome?
