ROME — Marking its 18th year in the Eternal City, one of Europe’s largest communal Passover celebrations drew nearly 500 participants this week, cementing its role as a vital hub for the international Jewish community.
The event, organized by Chabad Piazza Bologna, saw a total attendance of 263 guests and a total of 476 participants during the whole Pesach. Reflecting its primary mission of youth outreach, students accounted for over 50% of the total turnout.
A Milestone “Chai” Year
In Jewish tradition, the number 18 signifies “Chai,” or life, making this year’s anniversary particularly significant for organizers. Led by Rabbi Menachem Lazar, the Seder has evolved from a small gathering into a massive logistical operation hosted at the Rome Scout Center.
“The goal has always been to ensure that no student or traveler feels alone during the holidays,” organizers said.
